So all of a sudden, a package comes in the mail today. I have no idea who it's from, but in it is a $25 gift card, a copy of "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", and the following note (which I'm typing so I'll always have it):

"Sean,

You probably don't remember me but about two years ago, you pulled to the side of the road and graciously offered to use your triple A service to help get my flat fixed. I was driving my mom's mini-van and had my six year old brother with me. I was having possibly the worst year of my life and that day, that flat tire was enough to push me over the edge! But your act of kindness really helped me to look on the bright side.

"I'm ashamed it took this long to really thank you...I've kept your contact info all this time w/a plan of sending you a token of my appreciation. I hope you'll forgive me for being so late! Please accept this gift knowing that random acts of kindness always are recognized in some way or another and I hope that not only you continue to perform them but also you receive them every time you need your faith in everything restored. That's why I've sent "The 5 People You meet In heaven", because it is about the effect you can have on someone's life even if you never know them. This is maybe the sweetest thing ever. Two years ago, even, I didn't expect anything, but to get this after so much time (the card in particular), really blows my mind.

I am very thankful so many times for the world we live in and the people I encounter, and it makes my day to know that sometimes those people are thankful, too.

As NHS president, it was my duty to provide a closing speech to those graduating. My task was not to be profound, so please do not confuse my simplicity for lack of understanding or for no want of writing a profound speech.

The text is inside the LJ cut, for all those who care to read.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. It is an honor to speak tonight to a group who I have already seen profoundly impact the world and those around them.

I found it challenging to transform a torrent of thoughts into words that I would present this evening. However, while pouring over volumes of memories, stories, and quotations in search of a profound meaning for my speech, the realization struck me that every graduation, despite being decorated with such pomp and circumstance, means one ultimate, irreversible thing. Simply put, tonight we are Truman students; and, in all too short a while, we will have been Truman students.

As Truman students, we are those who entered this stadium in two single-file lines – orchestrated, choreographed, wrapped in our own thought. And yet, after a simple proclamation this evening, we will depart as a group. This beautiful new amalgamation of hundreds of individual talents and aspirations will take its first steps together as one.

At this moment, we are those who laugh at lunch tables, who greet each other in hallways that become a sea of people in rotating forty-five minute cycles. We are each other’s familiar, friendly faces, and we are lucky to have these experiences to take with us.

This is not to say that there aren’t immense advantages to having been students in this institution of learning. Each of us has received up to thirteen years of education in Bristol Township schools. We have been taught innumerable lessons by those teachers, administrators, and peers that we have encountered throughout this portion of the meandering journey of life.

So I say, let the reverberations of the people we are and the people we know and love echo eternally in the fondest memories of the school we know as Truman High. Because whatever we may become, and whatever may have been, tonight we forever are Truman’s class of 2005. Go forth and light up the world. And now, the words I’ve waited to say for my own thirteen years: Thank you, good night, and welcome to the world, Harry S Truman High School’s class of 2005.

P.S. This is the first time I think I've ever said my piece in two minutes. You all should be proud. ;)

Road Rage Almost Killed Me Today.

Alright, I'm making this update because if I don't I'll forget it too soon and I need to remember the details.

I was driving to school today with four passengers: My brother, Coriann Rosetti, Shannon Rice, and Laura Richardson.

We approached five points. I normally take the half-left to go down Emily Road towards Truman. The left lane was packed, so I signaled and moved into the right lane. Mind you, I'm doing about 55-60.

out of nowhere, this guy in a red mustang FLIES on my tail. I mean, seriously, almost hits me. and I checked my mirrors before I turned. So i get through the light and I'm like "who is this asshole?" so I move into the other lane. He flies by me in the right lane, like shaking his fist and cursing.

So, I do something stupid. I was really angry at this asshole.
I gave him the finger. I figured he was already speeding by me anyway and wouldn't see. Oh, no. He sees.

This enrages him more than I ever thought it would. So, I know that I'm going to be turning left to go down Warner Ave. (by pizza star, positively records, etc.) He's swerving back and forth in the lanes violently, I would assume to try to assert some sort of masculine dominance, or to instill fear in me. So I let him go by a little bit and then make the quick turn onto warner ave.

This asshole makes a U-Turn. Middle of New Falls Road. Traffic coming at him, to chase me down warner ave at like 70 miles an hour. I'm flooring it.

I hit the stop to slow down, when I notice the guy in the mustang is NOT stopping behind me. I don't want to be cut off, so I end up blowing the stop sign to turn onto Emily by the sev, etc. Thank God I could see that no one was coming. He follows me, sticking his head out the window, yelling the whole time.

It gets better though. This guy pulls into the WRONG SIDE of Emily Road, by the first entrance to Goldenridge. He speeds by me, OPENS HIS DOOR, and turns around. So at this point the guy's on the wrong side of the road going 50-60, head turned around, screaming.

We're now in the spot between the two entrances of Goldenridge. The guy pulls in front of me and stops. So I can't go past him (his mustang would probably outrun my escort with four passengers, haha). I have my phone in my hand getting ready to call the cops, because I know if i back up and go into the other goldrenridge entrance, I'm dead (too many small streets, traffic, little routes of escape even though I know it like the back of my hand).

Then I notice that this guy has his door open and is like yelling shit at me from his window like 50-100 feet ahead. I can't hear him, so in a last ditch attempt to just get rid of him, I roll down my window and yell "I'm sorry, alright?!" The guy takes off. I continue to school but I see he's stopped at the light by Emily Road and Green Lane. I pull over by the Auto tags store just so he doesn't see me. I pull back out like 30 seconds later. He's gone, thank God.

So then, my brother says, "WAIT! I think I know that car." And Corie agrees. My brother realizes that this guy lives on my street, or at least he thinks he does. He used to deliver papers to the guy.

Update: it's not the guy who lives near us. Damn.</b>

So, if legal action isn't possible, there will still be no remorse. It was a beautiful car -- very distinct. I feel like destroying something beautiful. It will do.

I'll be brief, because it's good and I'm tired. :)

I got into Muhlenberg today.

No more college worries, about not having a place or purpose come fall.

I got their Presidential Merit Scholarship. It's like $10,500 or something like that. Not shabby.

The guy my mom talked to thinks he might be able to swing me entrance into the honors program, despite me not applying for it.

All these things are the catharsis that I was so desperately in need of.

To everyone, all your kind words tonight were amazing. Thank you for the support you gave over the past few months.

AND, I still have yet to hear back from NYU. So i could still possibly be there.

But I know that I now have a path to take no matter what, to further myself and move toward things I've yet to see.

Anonymously or not:

Any personal thoughts on yours of an experience involving tanning or being ostracized due to tanning too much, tanning at all, or because you weren't tan or refused to tan.

I'm trying to get this paper to focus on society's pressure of people to conform to a stereotype that tanning helps convey.

Also, if you have any stories or observations that relate to tanning as a status symbol (i.e. those who tan can be seen as having "the money and the time" to tan, thus making it a positive attribute of a person subconsciously.), send them my way. I'll make use of them.
